International Coffee Tasting: the 2020 edition of the competition with the new Platinum Medals is just around the corner
After the success of the previous editions, including the most recent in Tokyo in 2019 with 289 coffees from all over the world, we welcome the 2020 edition of International Coffee Tasting, the competition organized by the International Institute of Coffee Tasters (IIAC).
Created with the scientific support of the Italian Tasters CSA in 2006, the core value of the competition is the technical evaluation by the Iiac judges: a network of more than 12,000 professionals in more than 40 countries around the world who perform strictly blind cupping within the framework of the most severe sensory analysis standards and under statistical control.
There are two new features this year: the competition is structured into sessions, with multiple tasting panels throughout the year in different countries; and the awarding of a Platinum Medal.
“International Coffee Tasting has become so big that it cannot be organized in a single event, which is why there will be a points mechanism for the awarding the Gold Medals and multiple international sessions,” says Luigi Odello, president of the International Institute of Tasters Coffee (Iiac). “This year, we have also instituted a Platinum Medal, to be awarded to the top 10% of the Gold Medals, therefore it will be the play-offs that decide the top of international excellence.”
The rules and application form are already available at www.internationalcoffeetasting.com.
